On Thursday night, a volunteer from Chaverim of Rockland, while en-route to a call on Monsey Boulevard, was struck by a vehicle. The driver, instead of stopping, fled the scene swiftly. Unyielding in his mission, the Chaverim volunteer quickly radioed for backup. Additional members responded, tracking the offending vehicle through Spring Valley via Route 59, all while maintaining communication with local law enforcement.
The Chaverim volunteers followed the fleeing vehicle until the intersection of Dutch Lane and Route 59, where the driver hastily abandoned his vehicle. The runaway car continued its course, eventually colliding with another Chaverim member’s vehicle. Undeterred, the fleeing suspect continued his escape on foot. However, his freedom was short-lived as Chaverim volunteers chased him down and subsequently handed him over to the Spring Valley and Ramapo police.
Upon arrest, it was discovered that the driver was heavily intoxicated. Ramapo police took custody of the individual, and he was transported to a local hospital via a Spring Hill EMS Ambulance for medical evaluation and treatment.
The unified and swift action of the Chaverim volunteers and local law enforcement led to the quick apprehension of the hit-and-run suspect.
