Chaverim Of Rockland Search & Rescue Team Carries Seizure Victim From Kakiat Park Trail {PHOTOS & VIDEO}

A rescue operation unfolded Thursday afternoon in Kakiat Park when Chaverim of Rockland’s Search & Rescue Team was dispatched to assist a group of special needs adults after one of the participants suffered a medical emergency while on a trail.

Sources tell Monsey Scoop that six adult males from a special needs group home were hiking in Kakiat Park when a 24-year-old participant suffered a seizure. By the time responders were notified, the individual was in a post-seizure condition and was reportedly too weak to continue walking or make his way off the trail.

Given the remote location, Chaverim of Rockland activated its Search & Rescue Unit, deploying members with specialized rescue equipment, including an all-terrain rescue stretcher designed for wilderness extrications. Responders quickly located the group on the trail and began the process of safely removing the patient from the wooded area.

Hatzoloh EMS of Rockland County was requested to the scene and stood by to evaluate the patient once he was brought out of the park. Working together, Chaverim volunteers carefully carried the patient over the terrain before transferring him to Hatzoloh personnel for further medical care.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office also assisted during the rescue operation.

The incident highlights the important role played by Chaverim of Rockland’s Search & Rescue Team, whose members can be mobilized at a moment’s notice with specialized training and equipment to assist in emergencies.
