Chaverim of Rockland SAR, Rockland Hatzoloh, NYS Park Police, and Forest Rangers Rescue Injured Hiker at Bear Mountain

A school outing from Brooklyn took a dramatic turn on Monday, when a teacher was injured just 15 minutes into a hike on one of Bear Mountain’s steep trails.

Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the teacher slipped and suffered an ankle injury on the rugged steps the area is known for. Unable to continue, staff members called Central Hatzolah, the emergency number familiar to Brooklyn residents. The call was then transferred to Rockland Hatzoloh, who in turn contacted Chaverim of Rockland’s Search and Rescue unit as well as local authorities.

Chaverim of Rockland initiated a callback to confirm the group’s location and quickly deployed their professional rescue team with specialized equipment. Meeting up with the New York State Park Police and NYS Forest Rangers, the groups coordinated efforts to reach the injured hiker deep inside the trail system.

On scene, the teacher was triaged and stabilized. It was determined that the safest method of transport would be Chaverim’s advanced rescue stretcher, a piece of equipment designed for rough terrain and particularly effective in the steep, uneven trails of Bear Mountain. Working hand-in-hand with the rangers and park police, Chaverim’s team carefully secured the patient and carried her out of the woods.

The teacher was then transferred to Rockland Hatzoloh, who transported her to a local hospital for further treatment.

Authorities praised the seamless coordination between Rockland Hatzoloh, Chaverim of Rockland, state rangers, and park police, which ensured the injured teacher received prompt care and safe evacuation from the mountain.
