At approximately 2:00 a.m. Monday morning, a Chaverim of Rockland volunteer on Night Patrol observed a taxi driving wildly on Ridge Avenue—swerving into oncoming lanes, repeatedly crashing into curbs, and posing a serious threat to public safety. The volunteer immediately called for backup from fellow Chaverim members, including Chaverim’s NightWatch unit, and activated Ramapo Police.
The driver eventually crashed near Chestnut Ridge Road and Lawrence Place. After stopping, he attempted to flee by opening his door but was so intoxicated that he fell to the ground. Chaverim volunteers kept a visual contact by the vehicle until Ramapo Police arrived and took the driver into custody. He was transported by Faist EMS to Good Samaritan Hospital and arrested for driving while intoxicated and causing a crash.
Sources tell Monsey Scoop the driver was en route to pick up a passenger on Ridge Avenue—highlighting the extreme danger posed by his impaired and erratic behavior.
Chaverim later confirmed with Spring Valley Police that the same vehicle had earlier crashed into a gate on Ridge Avenue in a hit-and-run. Spring Valley detectives and Rockland County Sheriff units are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
