Chaverim of Rockland, led by Coordinator Yossi Margaretten, played a pivotal role in recovering a car stolen from a frum Brooklyn resident in Newark, NJ, last night. The vehicle, equipped with a model-specific secondary tracker, was retrieved by the NYPD in the Bronx at 5:00 AM today after Chaverim urged local police to coordinate tracing efforts with the car manufacturer.
The theft occurred Monday night, prompting the owner to contact Chaverim for immediate assistance. Recognizing that the time between a theft and the start of recovery efforts is critical to success, Margaretten’s team acted swiftly. They identified the car’s built-in tracking feature and pressed the Newark Police Department to collaborate with the manufacturer, tracing the vehicle to the Bronx within hours. The NYPD then recovered it intact, and it is now being returned to its owner.
“We’re here to support our community,” Margaretten said. “Urging the police to use the tracker quickly was key, and we’re thrilled it worked out.” The operation underscores the importance of rapid response in stolen vehicle cases, as well as Chaverim’s ingenuity and strong partnership with law enforcement across jurisdictions.
