Chaverim Of Rockland Assists in Arrest: Delivery Driver Charged with Hate Crime Assault After Striking Victim in Monsey Dispute

On Thursday April 4, 2024, the Ramapo Police Department responded to Old Nyack Turnpike in the Monsey area of the Town for the report of a dispute. Upon officers’ arrival, it was discovered that the victim had ordered food through an online food delivery service, however, the wrong address was entered into the order extending the driver’s delivery. Upon the driver’s arrival, the driver engaged the victim angrily and allegedly utilized antisemitic language toward the victim. The victim went to the rear of the vehicle in an attempt to photograph the license plate, and the driver placed the vehicle in reverse and intentionally struck the victim. The driver then fled the scene. The victim sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention.

RPD detectives investigated the incident and through the help of Chaverim Of Rockland were able to identify the suspect and vehicle. He was located on Friday, April 5, 2024, and arrested. The suspect, a 32-year-old male from Spring Valley was charged with the Assault 2nd Degree as a Hate Crime, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, and Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident. He was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Court by Honorable Judge Alan Straus where bail was set at $5,000. The defendant was turned over to the Rockland County Jail pending future court appearances.

It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
