A Special Naturalization Ceremony will be held this Friday, December 5th, after the originally planned event was canceled. Due to quick intervention by Congressman Mike Lawler, USCIS relocated and reinstated the ceremony, ensuring that candidates would not experience further delays in receiving their citizenship.
Friday’s event is being conducted entirely by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The program will include welcoming remarks, a national anthem presentation, the call of countries, administration of the Oath of Allegiance, and a keynote address delivered by Congressman Mike Lawler. Newly sworn-in citizens will also view a congratulatory video message from President Donald J. Trump.
This ceremony follows recent developments in which Congressman Lawler successfully worked with USCIS to reverse its decision to halt naturalization ceremonies in Rockland, Westchester, and other parts of New York State. On November 20th, Lawler announced that USCIS had agreed to immediately resume naturalization events after receiving his formal letter and engaging in direct discussions with USCIS Director Joseph Edlow.
Lawler noted at the time that canceling these ceremonies without notice was unacceptable and highlighted the importance of restoring them quickly for the hundreds of residents awaiting citizenship. He emphasized that naturalization ceremonies are among the most meaningful events he attends, both professionally and personally.
Friday’s reinstated ceremony ensures that dozens of applicants will now have the opportunity to take their Oath of Allegiance and officially become United States citizens as originally planned.
