BOARDWALK BATTLE: Lake Suzanne Project Abruptly Halted After Rabbonim and Neighbors Object

The Lake Suzanne Boardwalk project, which officially began construction in early June and was originally championed by then-Legislator and now Assemblyman Aron Wieder, has been abruptly put on hold, Monsey Scoop has learned.

Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the new boardwalk framework, which had already seen significant construction activity, has now been gated off and paused. The sudden halt follows complaints from local neighbors and Rabbonim in the area who voiced strong opposition to the project. These concerns were reportedly escalated to the county, prompting officials to stop all work at the site.

Many local residents are expressing frustration over the stoppage, arguing that the boardwalk would have enhanced public access and outdoor recreational opportunities around the lake. Several neighbors are calling on the county to resume construction immediately and complete what was set in motion.

“This halt comes despite the fact that Assemblyman (then-Legislator) Aron Wieder invested his heart and soul into making this long-requested community project a reality,” Moshe Weinberger told Monsey Scoop. “It’s disappointing to see what began as a community-backed improvement become the target of minority opposition and political pressure.”

This is a developing story. Monsey Scoop will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

  1. I honestly think its a waste of tax payer dollar, the lake it self is disgusting and dried out, I remember growing up in Monsey 30 years ago it was a nice place to just pass by without no fancy boardwalk, and now i can’t even look that direction, never the area between Francis Pl and Warren Ct but even further up to Vincent Rd is a disgrace, (Just look at the pictures from the article)

  2. On behalf of the Suzanne neighbors we are happy to see they are taking our concerns seriously and stopped the project!
Its a waste of tax money to build a boardwalk over a smelly dirty overgrown lake that has not been cared for in yesrs!
We would have appreciated if we would have been consulted beforehand. I spoke to many neighbors and everyone one is opposed to it

    • @Sam I live on Suzanne Drive, I have no clue what you’re talking about. We were consulted about this multiple times and 99% of the neighbors wanted this project because of a few individuals this project should not be stopped. Aron Wieder sat with us many times and we all came to the agreement that we wanted it.

      • i dont know where on Suzanne you live but we live across the lake and we feel the same as @hurtneighbor

Maybe you were one of the few privliged once to be part of it.

        • Or is it you don’t want people to see the illegal things you do on your property? I’m sure that you and the others (Rabbonim) don’t want the neighbors or town to be able to see the illegal hookups or potential hazards or illegal daycares to be seen. If you want That much privacy build a fence and let the community beautification continue. I just can’t believe that all the wonderful work Aaron Wieder did is opposed by his own people.

  3. Mr Wieder never discussed any plans with the neighbors who would be effected by this. There was never any public hearing to review the plans (as it is the case with any construction permits) he held some private meetings with his freinds to make sure he gets the approval from them and can show the county that the neighbors don’t object! And when Mr wieder was confronted by some of the neighbors he dismissed them by saying it has nothing to do with me! And we know that was a lie as the country official admitted she just got this project and Mr Wieder was the only one pushing for it.
So hopefully this nonsense project will be permanently shut off
And all those local residents (which we know exactly who they are) who want it so badly lets make a boardwalk in your backyard and see your response.
@Monsey scoop please brings both sides of the story

    • My brother who lives near Suzanne Lake shared that the Salka Rebbetzin, whose home is on the Spring Valley side behind the lake, expressed concerns about the boardwalk project potentially becoming a hangout spot. She officially reached out to county officials to intervene. Whether that played a role in the project’s sudden halt i am not sure. Also Monsey Scoop isn’t afraid to report the real stories—while some other local outlets seem to shy away or ignore them altogether.

      • If Monsey Scoop isn’t afraid to report the real stories why has there been no mention AT ALL about the illegal and extremely dangerous “daycare center” in New City that was closed down? Babies and children deliberately put in harm’s way is surely newsworthy is it not? Where is the outrage??

    • I live in Monsey and feel that it will pose a great danger to kids. Kids will jump off and Chos V’Shalom get hurt. Don’t get all down my throat. Boys will be boys. I also agree about a hang out . I would rather our/ my tax papers dollars go for important issues. Pot holes, a traffic light by Route 59 and S. Cole . Yes over there. Safety is more important than some useless bridge.

  4. Since when does monsey care about their neighbors?

Did any of you approve of the developments etc. Being built all over?

  5. I don’t understand the opposition to the project. The way it looked till now was definitely horrid. It was a shrek to walk past it everyday. I understand the Salka Rebetzin’s opposition as it’s in her backyard but the plans can be adjusted so it doesn’t become a hangout. It can be closed at dusk like many parks. I would like to hear more from “Hurt Neighbor” exactly what he/she doesn’t like or potentially would like the county to do. People seem to think that the money could go to better causes but this was a special grant that is specifically made for land improvements such as this. The county wouldn’t get the funding if it went for potholes.

I actually thought it was an overkill to spend $10mil on the project. For me treating the water to get rid of the fungus, making a simple nice path around the lake till the waterfall and adding some nice greenery would have been more than enough. But I don’t see the reason for all the fighting either.

  6. I live by the lake too. I was at the meeting where this project was discussed. I remember saying first you need to have a pretty lake to look at, only then can u build a boardwalk. I said remove the algae but they gave some lousy excuse.. and then I remember hearing someone get annoyed at the fact that not everyone is agreeing to this idea of boardwalk and his response was’ if you’re not happy we can build more housing on the lake’ so in a way we were forced to agree to this plan.

  7. I agree that doing a retaining wall around lake with walkway and greenery is beautiful idea. And it will also co tain the water so that the greenery doesn’t spread in it.
