Bear Mountain Ice Rink Set to Open Next Weekend for 2024/25 Season

The Palisades Interstate Park Commission is pleased to announce the opening of the Bear Mountain Ice Rink for the 2024/25 season. Join next weekend for the first skate of the season at the rink that was voted Best of the Hudson Valley four years running!

There has been outdoor ice skating at Bear Mountain since 1922, when skaters used the first rink on Hessian Lake, just north of the Bear Mountain Inn. This rink hosted 500,000 people in the 1928-29 season and served as the home rink for West Point’s hockey team.

The current outdoor rink, nestled against Bear Mountain, was built in 1955. It serves tens of thousands of visitors each year, providing picture picturesque views and well-kept ice. Just 45 miles north of Manhattan, the Rink provides family skating time for visitors, is used by local schools, and is a Learn to Play location for the NY Rangers.

This year’s season begins next weekend when the rink will begin its programming of six 90-minute skating sessions on Fridays/Saturdays and five sessions on Sunday. On Fridays and Saturday, the last session is a nighttime session, where you can skate under the stars at beautiful Bear Mountain State Park. Admission is only $5.00 per person (children aged 4 and under skate for free). You can rent skates for $10.00 and we provide skate sharpening services as needed. Parking at Bear Mountain is $10.00.
