On behalf of New York State Assemblyman Aron Wieder, a representative presented Certificates of Merit to the Tappan Zee High School girls varsity basketball team on Tuesday, April 21, recognizing their historic victory in the 2026 NYSPHSAA Class A state championship.
The presentation took place at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the main entrance of Tappan Zee High School. The team then paraded down Dutch Hill Road to Orangetown Town Hall, where they received further recognition from Town Supervisor Teresa Kenny and the Town Board during its regular meeting.
The Lady Dutchmen captured the program’s first state title with a 54-48 upset victory over Notre Dame of Utica on March 22 at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. Led by Head Coach Riley Chevrier, the team demonstrated exceptional resilience, teamwork, and skill all season.
“These outstanding young athletes have brought immense pride to Tappan Zee High School and the entire community,” said Assemblyman Aron Wieder. “Their dedication and achievement serve as an inspiration to students across Rockland County, demonstrating what can be accomplished through hard work and perseverance.”
