Assemblyman Aron Wieder Announces $773,354 in State Funding for Library Construction Projects in the 97th Assembly District

Assemblyman Aron Wieder announced today that three public libraries in the 97th Assembly District have been awarded a combined $773,354 in New York State Library Construction Aid to support critical facility upgrades and energy-efficient improvements.

The funding will support the following projects:

Finkelstein Memorial Library: Installation of a geothermal well field for energy-efficient heating and cooling Palisades Free Library: ADA-compliant bathroom upgrades and storage expansion
Pearl River Public Library: Replacement of 126 windows to improve energy efficiency and building integrity “These funds will allow our libraries to modernize their facilities, reduce energy costs, and better serve residents of all ages and abilities,” said Assemblyman Aron Wieder. “Public libraries are essential community anchors, and investing in their infrastructure ensures they remain accessible, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of our district.”

The awards are part of $44 million in statewide capital funding provided in the FY 2024–2025 State Budget for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects. The New York State Library provides technical assistance and conducts a comprehensive review of each application before submission to the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), strengthening projects and ensuring eligibility for funding.

New York’s public libraries face significant infrastructure challenges, with a documented statewide need exceeding $1.75 billion. Many library buildings are decades old and require upgrades to address accessibility, energy efficiency, outdated electrical systems, and space constraints for technology, collections, and community programming.

The State Aid for Library Construction Program supports new construction, renovations, and building expansions, including energy-efficiency upgrades, alternative energy installations, accessibility improvements, electrical and HVAC upgrades, broadband infrastructure, and essential equipment for renovated spaces.

In the FY 2025–2026 State Budget, the Legislature again allocated $44 million for library construction projects, with awards expected to be announced in Summer 2026—reinforcing the State’s ongoing commitment to strengthening libraries and the essential services they provide to communities across New York.
