ARRESTED: Suspect in Route 59 Gas Station Assault Taken Into Custody by Spring Valley Police

UPDATE – WEDNESDAY 9/17 AT 2:25PM: Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the suspect in the Route 59 gas station assault has been arrested and charged. Spring Valley Police are expected to release additional details at a later time. On behalf of the community, we thank the Spring Valley Police Department for their quick action in pursuing and apprehending the suspect.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: A violent assault late Tuesday night at the 76 Gas Station on Route 59 in Spring Valley has left the community shaken. The incident unfolded when a man attempted to see why a vehicle at the pump wasn’t moving. As he looked into the car, the driver emerged from the convenience store and, without warning, punched him squarely in the face. The unprovoked attack was caught on surveillance video.

Chaverim of Rockland responded to assist, and the victim was later transported by Rockland Hatzoloh to Nyack Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

In a move that shocked bystanders, Spring Valley Police initially released the suspect after classifying the assault as “only harassment.” Following further review, however, police announced they are now actively seeking the driver and warned that if he is not located, a warrant for his arrest will be issued.

Monsey Scoop notes that the Spring Valley Police Department is generally considered professional and responsive, making their initial handling of this incident a puzzling and troubling departure from their usual standard.

  1. Which driver was the victim and which driver was the perp? Did the driver in the convenience store come out and punch the guy looking into his car?

  2. A thorough investigation why was this classified as “harassment” to begin with? Did the officers not see the video of the attack or was it a lousy officer that should be dismissed?!…

    • Wasn’t an attack, your Jewish brother was looking in the car of the suspect (probably being impatient for the pump), was asked multiple times why he was looking in the car and if he thought it was ok to look in the car, then was asked if it was ok to be smacked, said yes and was slapped in the face.
