Antisemitism has apparently come to the District 97 assembly race as disturbing campaign signs have been posted in Orangetown, featuring McGowan alongside his opponent, Chasidic candidate Aron Wieder, depicted in full Chasidic attire. The slogan on the signs reads, “the choice is yours,” in what many are calling a thinly veiled attempt to appeal to anti-Orthodox Jewish sentiment among voters.
The insinuation is unmistakable. By highlighting Wieder’s religious appearance, the signs seem to send an insidious message: that voters should choose McGowan simply because his opponent is an Orthodox Jew. The Rockland Jewish Alliance condemned the signs, calling them a dangerous form of antisemitic propaganda that has no place in modern politics.
“This kind of blatant targeting of a candidate’s religion is shocking and disgraceful,” a spokesperson for the alliance said. “It’s a dark reminder of the prejudice that still exists, and we cannot allow it to go unchecked.”
Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the signs were not officially sanctioned by McGowan’s campaign or the GOP. Rather, the signs are an independent initiative by Orangetown resident Patty Dooley Pogeweit, who personally financed their creation.
So jump to a conclusion –
1) without actually reading the rest of the information and
2) “the choice is yours” is one of the most common used phrases in all of politics.
This entire “article” is based on a huge assumption. It’s very possible that the other candidate is antisemitic, but you have to actually research the candidate and his proposals before coming to such a strong conclusion.
If בית דין were to have considered punishments of מיתה this way, a lot of innocent people may have been put to death.
You would be right if there was any thing significant on the sign other than “the choice is yours”, such as this Mclown guy’s past achievements and his policies. However, being that there is nothing there other than the pictures, the sign is clearly anti-semitic in nature.
What does “not officially sanctioned ” mean? Either it’s not sanctioned or it’s sanctioned. Not officially sanctioned is biased against the Republican because it insinuates that he unofficially sanctioned it. If you have evidence that he unofficially sanctioned it then post it in your report. Why accuse someone without evidence.
