Work officially began Monday morning to remove the retaining wall at the intersection of Yale Drive and Cragmere Road, a location that has been the scene of multiple crashes over the years.
The project follows longstanding safety concerns from residents, who have repeatedly urged local officials to address the wall, which extends into the roadway. Although the removal had previously been approved, construction was delayed by several days due to rainy weather before crews were able to begin work.
State Senator Bill Weber also advocated for the project and worked with local officials to help move it forward. Residents welcomed the start of the long-awaited project, expressing hope that the roadway improvements will help prevent future crashes and make the intersection safer for motorists.
The project was made possible through the combined efforts of the Village of Airmont, the Town of Ramapo, and State Senator Bill Weber, whose work helped move this important public safety improvement forward.
