New traffic cameras and vehicle detection sensors are currently being installed by the New York State Department of Transportation at the busy intersection of Cherry Lane and Route 59 in Airmont.
The improvements are designed to enhance traffic flow and improve safety for motorists traveling through one of the area’s most heavily used intersections. According to project officials, work is expected to be completed by next Wednesday.
The project follows ongoing advocacy efforts by local officials and community leaders who have worked to address traffic concerns and improve infrastructure in the area.
Special recognition is being given to Congressman Mike Lawler, his Deputy Chief of staff Rafi Silberberg, Assemblyman Aron Wieder, Airmont Deputy Mayor Moses, and community activist Yehuda Zorger for their efforts in helping advance the project and bringing attention to the needs of Airmont residents.
Residents can expect periodic work activity at the intersection as crews complete the installation and testing of the new equipment over the coming days.
