AIRMONT: Local Leaders Secure Temporary Repair For Faulty Cherry Lane And Route 59 Traffic Signal; Permanent Fix Expected In Coming Weeks

Motorists traveling through the intersection of Cherry Lane and Route 59 in Airmont may soon notice improved traffic flow following the implementation of a temporary repair to address ongoing issues with the traffic signal’s turn sensors.

For an extended period, faulty roadway loop sensors have caused problems with the signal system, leading to delays and frustration for drivers attempting to navigate the busy intersection.

Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the New York State Department of Transportation is expected to replace the damaged sensors with a permanent solution in the coming weeks. In the meantime, crews are implementing a temporary fix designed to improve operations until the full repair can be completed.

The temporary repair comes following the efforts of Airmont Deputy Mayor Shimon Moses, community activist Yehuda Zorger, Assemblyman Aron Wieder, and Congressman Mike Lawler’s Deputy Chief of Staff Rafi Silberberg, who worked together to bring attention to the issue and help expedite a solution.

Residents and commuters are hopeful the temporary improvements will ease traffic congestion while they await the permanent replacement of the faulty sensors.
