Ramapo Police say last night’s multi-vehicle crash on Route 59 in Airmont, first reported by Monsey Scoop, serves as yet another reminder of the dangers posed by impaired and reckless driving, even as officers continue their aggressive enforcement efforts.
On Monday evening, November 3, 2025, around 7:00 p.m., Ramapo officers responded to the area of 100 Route 59 for reports of a serious crash. Upon arrival, police discovered that two separate collisions had occurred within moments of each other.
According to investigators, the first crash involved a 2022 Subaru Legacy, driven by a 41-year-old man from Elmwood Park, New Jersey, who was exiting a parking lot when he struck a 2023 Ford Bronco traveling westbound, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Mendham, New Jersey. The impact disabled the Bronco in the roadway.
Moments later, a 2008 Honda Civic, operated by a 45-year-old man from New City, attempted to pass stopped traffic caused by the initial crash. The Civic struck the disabled Bronco and then hit a 51-year-old Airmont man who had stepped in to assist the Bronco’s occupants.
Emergency personnel transported the Bronco driver and her 90-year-old male passenger to Nyack Hospital, while the injured bystander was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. The Civic driver was also transported to Nyack Hospital and cited for improper passing.
The Subaru driver was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) under sections 1192.2 and 1192.3 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law, and for Aggravated DWI after testing above a .18 blood-alcohol content. He was processed at Ramapo Police Headquarters.
All reported injuries were non-life-threatening. Route 59 was closed in both directions for an extended period as police conducted a full investigation and cleared the scene.
Ramapo Police noted that despite having made over 230 DWI-related arrests so far this year, incidents like this show that “some motorists continue to make reckless and dangerous decisions that put the rest of the community at risk.”
