A long-darkened streetlight on Walter Drive in Monsey has finally been restored, bringing much-needed lighting back to the neighborhood after months without illumination.
Residents tell Monsey Scoop that the issue lingered after initial confusion over responsibility, with O&R Utilities first indicating the light belonged to the town before later determining it was not. Following renewed outreach and advocacy, the matter was ultimately resolved and the light was repaired.
Neighbors credited Michael Specht, Town of Ramapo Supervisor, and especially Yisroel Eisenbach, Spring Valley Deputy Mayor and community askan, for stepping in and helping push the fix through. Residents described the area as “pitch black” prior to the repair, raising ongoing safety concerns for drivers and pedestrians alike.
In addition, Rafi Silberberg, Senior Advisor to Congressman Mike Lawler, also assisted behind the scenes in helping push the issue toward resolution.
With the light now back on, neighbors say the improvement is immediately noticeable and are expressing appreciation to the officials who helped bring the issue to a resolution.

Totally false
Belongs to the town? To the county? Monsey? Spring Valley? Just like road imperfections, it’s nearly impossible to complain because every few inches belong to a different jurisdiction. What a stupid system.
Oh my God this article absolutely is horrible. Who owns the street lights? Orange and Rockland owns the street lights. Who pays for the street lights ? the town or the village. How come the street lights all over New Hempstead and Montebello are not on sometimes they’re on most of the time they’re off. There’s a street light on every single pole, but they’re never always on.
