50th Anniversary Memorial Held for Fallen Orangetown Officers, Kennedy and Reedy; Tappan Zee Bridge Illuminated in Purple (PHOTOS)

On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, half a century had passed since the tragic deaths of PO Thomas Kennedy and PO Michael Reedy from the Orangetown Police Department, who were fatally hit by a drunk driver as they managed traffic at an accident site on Route 303 in Blauvelt. Reedy had a four-year tenure with the Orangetown Police, whereas Kennedy had been a part of the force for a mere six months.

The anniversary brought together members of the PBA, the fallen officers’ families, other officers from across Rockland, and community members in a memorial ceremony to pay tribute to Kennedy and Reedy.

Two commemorative signs, now installed at the accident site, were unveiled. These signs are located at the Leber St Bridge and Rt 303, as well as the pedestrian path at Greenbush Rd and Rt 303.

In a poignant gesture of remembrance, the Tappan Zee Bridge was bathed in purple light on the night of August 2nd, honouring our lost heroes.
