Forty volunteer fire recruits from more than 13 fire departments across Rockland County have officially begun their training to become certified firefighters.
Over the next four months, the recruits will participate in the county’s Firefighter I program, completing extensive classroom instruction and hands-on practical exercises designed to prepare them for the demands of the fire service. The certification course will test their knowledge, physical abilities, and commitment to protecting the communities they serve.
County fire officials said the new class represents the next generation of volunteer firefighters who will help strengthen emergency response efforts throughout Rockland County. The recruits will spend countless hours learning essential firefighting skills, fire behavior, rescue techniques, safety procedures, and emergency operations.
Officials praised the recruits for stepping forward to serve and highlighted the importance of volunteer firefighters in keeping local communities safe. Upon successful completion of the program, the recruits will join the ranks of certified firefighters serving departments across the county.
