Tragedy struck on Tuesday morning when a Nissan Pathfinder and a box truck collided on Route 303 near Hillside Lane in Valley Cottage, leaving a 1-year-old girl critically injured.
The child later succumbed to her injuries, while her 31-year-old mother and a 3-year-old boy are recovering.
The box truck driver, extricated by firefighters, is also on the mend.
Route 303 was closed for seven hours for investigation, with the cause of the crash still undetermined.
