With a major snowstorm expected to begin Saturday evening and continue through Sunday into Monday afternoon, officials across Rockland County are issuing a blunt warning to residents: street parking during the storm will not be tolerated. Vehicles left on public roadways will be ticketed and towed without exception to allow snowplows and emergency vehicles to operate safely and efficiently.
Municipal officials stress that cars left on the street significantly slow plowing operations, narrow already snow-covered roadways, and create serious safety hazards. During heavy snowfall, plows need full curb-to-curb access. When vehicles are in the way, entire blocks can be skipped, leaving roads impassable for hours and delaying police, fire, EMS, and utility responses.
🚨 This enforcement applies countywide, including all towns and villages in Rockland County.
The five towns affected are:
-
Clarkstown
-
Ramapo
-
Orangetown
-
Haverstraw
-
Stony Point
The villages where street-parking rules will be enforced include:
-
Airmont
-
Chestnut Ridge
-
Hillburn
-
Haverstraw
- Kaser
-
New Hempstead
- New Square
-
Nyack
-
Piermont
-
Pomona
-
Spring Valley
-
Sloatsburg
-
Suffern
-
Wesley Hills
Residents are urged to remove all vehicles from public streets by late Saturday night, before snowfall intensifies. Once plowing operations begin, enforcement will be active, and vehicles obstructing snow removal will be towed at the owner’s expense. Recovering a towed vehicle during or after a storm can be costly and time-consuming.
Officials emphasize that this is not about punishment, but about public safety and accessibility. Clearing streets quickly helps prevent accidents, keeps neighborhoods accessible, and ensures emergency responders can reach those in need.
The message is simple and direct: don’t test it. If you don’t want to find your car in a tow yard, get it off the street before the storm arrives and keep roadways clear until plowing operations are complete.
